Friday, September 27th is the due date for property owners to pay their annual tax bills.

Tax payments may be made in person or sent by mail to 225 Reimer Avenue, Steinbach, MB R5G 2J1.  Property owners are encouraged to issue postdated cheques and drop them off prior to September 27th.

When adding City of Steinbach as a payee, search "Steinbach", select the 'Taxes' option. Vendors are normally listed as "Steinbach, City Business/Realty Taxes" or "Steinbach (City of) Taxes".

Your account number is your roll number. Enter all digits (13) of the roll number, including the preceding 451 and all zeroes. Do NOT enter the decimal (i.e. enter 4510001234000 for roll no. 451 0001234.000).

I recently built a new home and have only received a property tax bill for the land. When can I expect a bill for the house?

New homes are typically sent a supplementary tax bill. Supplementary tax bills are mailed out the first week of October and due the last business day in December. Depending on the completion date of your home and/or if the home has been assessed, you may receive a tax bill for both the previous and current year.

I received a tax bill for a property I no longer own. What should I do?

If you no longer own the property, please forward the tax notice to the current owner or advise the City of Steinbach.

Is the Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit automatically applied?          

Properties that are not receiving the education tax credit must apply. To qualify, the property must be your principal residence; a single-dwelling unit; you must have occupied it as of January 1st; and you must not be receiving the credit for another residence. The deadline to apply for 2023 has passed. You may claim the Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit on your 2023 personal income tax return. Please contact the city to have it applied to future notices.

What period does my tax bill cover?

City of Steinbach tax bills cover the calendar year (January 1 - December 31).

I recently purchased a property and never received a property tax bill. Am I responsible for the property taxes?

New property owners are responsible for payment of property taxes whether or not they received a notice. Any property owner who does not receive a tax statement should contact the City Tax Clerk.

*Failure to receive a tax notice is not sufficient reason for late payment or non-payment; penalties will be applied.

I am paying for my property taxes through my mortgage. How do I know that my bank / mortgage company received notification of the amount owing?

If your property tax account shows a recorded interest from your bank / mortgage company, they are notified of amounts owing in July.

Are receipts automatically mailed?

Receipts are not mailed out, as your processed cheque can serve as the receipt. If you require a receipt, please contact the City.
